NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - New Hanover County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a body found in Carolina Beach State Park.

According to authorities the body was found just before 2:30 Thursday afternoon by employees of the State Park, but say it could have been there for a week.

While officials do not know the cause of death, they do not suspect foul play.  An autopsy is scheduled in Chapel Hill Friday.

The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office is asking for help in identifying the body.  Officials describe it as a white male with facial hair between 25-35 years of age standing 5'9", weighing about 180 lbs. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and tan cargo pants.

Anyone who may have seen a man fitting this description since Dec. 6 is asked to contact the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office, (910) 341-4200.

The Carolina Beach State Park remains open, except for campsites located in Area 2.  Authorities will return to the park Friday for further investigation.
