Traffic signals are operational again in southwestern Wilmington December 17, 2009 at 5:49 PM EST - Updated September 26 at 9:10 PM WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - An accident at Shipyard Boulevard and Carolina Beach Road shut down the intersection, backing up traffic for several hours. An 18-wheeler heading toward the port hit a utility pole around 12:15 p.m., knocking out power across the area. According to the Wilmington Police Department, part of the rig tore down the traffic lights and left a large pole lying on live wires in the roadway.
