BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) held an informational meeting for people in Brunswick County Wednesday, in an effort to gauge interest for a local chapter there.

The state executive director for MADD North Carolina gave a presentation, outlining its services and programs and how people can become involved.

State statistics show there were 28 DWI citations over a thirteen day stretch last month in Brunswick County, coming from highway checkpoints and patrols.

The nonprofit organization began in 1980 with its mission to stop drunk driving, support victims of drunk driving, and prevent underage drinking.

Stacey Manning is spearheading the effort to start the MADD chapter in Brunswick County.  Her mother was killed by a drunk driver in Kentucky three years ago.
