BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Brunswick County commissioners are trying to preserve the history of the old buildings in the area.
The New Hope Presbyterian Church was built in the 1890s and is only one of many from Southport to Leland that are part of a database.
Commissioners recognized a need to collect as much information as possible on the county's history, so buildings with historic significance won't be destroyed.
The planning department in Brunswick County has been working with local history experts and a company from Virginia to complete the information, which will be available to the public when it's finished.
