COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Bolton town officials say they're close to hiring a new police chief.  They've narrowed the search to four finalists.

Earlier this year, Bolton received a $600,000 federal grant to revitalize the town's police department.

Bolton residents have been relying on law enforcement services from the Lake Waccamaw Police Department and the Columbus County Sheriff's Office for the past two years.

A police chief will likely be named in a few weeks.  Town officials said the new department should be operating by the beginning of 2010.
