ROCKY POINT, NC (WECT) - Representatives of a company called Medicia spoke at Monday's Pender County Commissioners meeting. A spokesperson told the county leaders that his company was interested in purchasing the Coty plant in Rocky Point.
Medicia is a worldwide manufacture of cosmetic supplies. The corporation is based in New Jersey, and if the acquisition goes through the Rocky Point location would be its first holding in North Carolina.
Coty, another cosmetic firm, announced that it will be closing its Pender County plant in 2010 and laying off all 500 employees. If Medicia buys the plant, 340 of those jobs would be saved.
A number of hurdles have to be crossed before the sale goes through. Monday the Pender County Commissioners approved a $400,000 grant to help fund Medicia's study of the transaction.
