WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - New Hanover High School went into lockdown for about ten minutes Monday morning, after a student held a knife to his own throat.
Sheriff's deputies say the boy was suspended last week and returned to school Monday morning with knives.
The student is a 15-year-old sophomore. He was found in the boy's restroom. The school resource officer says he had a knife in each hand and then placed one to his throat.
He was convinced to hand over the knives, and no one was hurt. The boy was taken into custody.
The teenager is a special needs student and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
The investigation has been turned over to the New Hanover Co. District Attorney's Office.
