WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The old Nesbitt Court housing development could be getting a facelift as early as spring of 2010.

Developer Caper Corporation is under contract with the Wilmington Housing Authority to buy the 12-acre housing project and turn it into town homes.

The company wants to save the current buildings and create modern, affordable housing for Wilmington residents.

The housing units cannot be torn down and rebuilt because they are on the historical register.  They can only be gutted and redeveloped.

"It's a historic building and we feel, and my wife particularly, is into salvaging and saving and not destroying anything that's of value," said Walter Pancoe with Caper Corp.

Caper Corp. is in a due diligence period and has until the middle of March 2010 to decide if they want to go through with the project.
