WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - An 18-month old child was seriously injured in a two-car collision at Third and Meares Street Wednesday morning.

The baby and her mother were in a Dodge Stratus headed west on Meares Street. The driver entered the intersection and was struck on the passenger side by an  F-150 crew cab pick-up truck traveling south on Third Street.

Nigel Allen from Jacksonville witnessed the crash and said he and his fiance pulled over to help the victims.  Allen said he spotted a baby in the backseat of the sedan and flagged an emergency vehicle, that happened to be in the area, for help.

The baby sustained serious trauma and was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Her condition at this point is unknown.

The baby's mother was taken to NHRMC. She was conscious and talking, and her injuries do not appear to be serious. The driver of the F-150 was not hurt.

The crash is under investigation.
