BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A second Republican candidate has emerged to run for the position of Brunswick County Sheriff in 2010.

Timothy "Salt" Daniels, a Sergeant with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, plans to run for the office next year.  Daniels has been a state trooper since 1999.

Current Sheriff John Ingram recently changed his political affiliation from Democrat to Republican and announced he would seek the office next year.  No Democrat has announced intentions to run next year yet, although Brunswick County Democrat Party Chairwoman Donna Silva says the party will field a candidate.

Daniels grew up in Brunswick County.  He states in his press release that "politicians who forget the job they have been asked to do and focus on activities that serve their personal gains, in turn, ignoring the citizens, whom they are supposed to serve, have no place serving as Sheriff."
