NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Construction on Cape Fear Public Utility Authority's new environmental services building has customers asking questions about financing.
CFPUA recently raised customer rates to start paying off an $189 million debt, but the new building will cost the authority about $4 million.
According to the CFPUA's information officer, the plan had been in the budget long before the authority took over. She says CFPUA owns more than 40 acres of land in the Ogden area, which is the best location for the building - across from the new nano-filtration facility.
The new environmental services building will house four main departments, including: environmental services; lab services, which will test for water purity; and community compliance, which is responsible for educating the public.
