NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - New Hanover County leaders received a $1.2 million grant to help renters who are at risk of losing their homes, as part of the ten year plan to end homelessness.
The grant will provide funding for the next three years.
Also, at the beginning of 2010, a $50,000 salaried caseworker position will be created to assist homeless people qualify for benefits.
The ten year plan was created in 2008 in hopes of getting everyone off the streets and into homes. It models a plan that is already successful in 350 cities across the country.
