Carolina Beach officer put on administrative leave has resigned

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - A Carolina Beach Police officer who is the center of an assault case with a town council member has resigned.

According to Chief William Younginer, officer Darrell Collins was placed on paid administrative leave last week, but resigned from the department Monday.

Collins dropped stalking and assault charges he took out against Carolina Beach councilman Steve Wilcox.

Mayor Joel Macon said the two men were in an argument over a woman.
