NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Jason Thompson was appointed New Hanover County commissioner chairman by his peers during Monday's meeting. He is taking over for previous chairman Ted Davis Jr.
Thompson said he hopes to help make improvements to New Hanover County.
"I'm going to build upon the foundation already laid by the past chairman and chairmen before him, and try to move us in a positive direction," said Thompson.
Thompson's new duties will include running the regular meetings. He will receive a pay increase, earning about $24,000. Other commissioners make around $17,000.
Thompson was elected to the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners in 2008 after serving as a Wilmington City Councilman from 2001-2008.
