WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Folks living in the city of Wilmington and New Hanover County are asked to limit their water use today, as an expansion of the Sweeney Water Treatment Facility gets underway at the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority.
For now, the request is voluntary.
CFPUA plans to start a valve replacement and pipe work in the portion of the facility where raw water becomes drinking water. That project starts at 10 a.m. Tuesday and will last through 6 a.m. Wednesday.
CFPUA states in a written release, "while the contractor performing this work is well qualified and this portion of the project carefully planned, when a facility's capacity is reduced, certain water use limitations are encouraged and may potentially become mandatory."
If the restrictions become mandatory, CFPUA plans to make public announcements.
