COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Before being sworn in as the mayor of Whiteville, Terry Mann attended a free mayoral training course in Raleigh.

The League of Municipalities and Institute of Government Chapel Hill hosted the session that focused on areas like how to deal with the media and how to work with the city manager.

Mann, who was already a city council member, said he is ready for the upcoming challenges and responsibilities of being mayor.

"After problems go through the city manager, they'll go to the city manager first and then they'll come to me or they'll come to me first and then go to the city manager, so I'll probably have in a lot of situations contact with the constituents," said Mann.

Mann will be sworn into office Tuesday, Dec. 8, in addition to Whiteville city council newcomer Vickie Pait and incumbents Tim Blockmon and Troy Harold.
