WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington residents will gather on Hilton Street Thursday night for the annual lighting of the world's largest living Christmas tree.

This is the 80th year the tree will light up the Wilmington area during the holiday season.

The Cape Fear Academy Upper School Vocal Ensemble will perform at 5:30, and Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo will light the tree around 6:20 p.m.

Santa will arrive shortly after the tree is lit and will visit with children until 8:30 p.m.  The event is free and cameras are welcome.
