NORTH CAROLINA (WECT) - Health Departments across North Carolina have been giving $200,000 to help spread the word about the upcoming smoking ban.
Starting January 2, 2010 smoking will be banned inside restaurants, bars, and lodging establishments that serve food and drink.
New Hanover County commissioners approved a nearly $8,000 grant that will be used to purchase education materials to inform residents about the dangers of smoking and to promote the ban.
The website, www.SmokeFree.NC.gov, provides business owners and customers information on the new law. There are downloadable fact sheets, no-smoking signs and other tools to help make the transition to smoke-free air an easy one.
NC residents can obtain further information about the new law by calling the CARE-LINE, 1-800-662-7030.
