NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - New Hanover County firefighters are trying to prevent household fires from spreading by installing new hydrants.
Monday, 13 fire hydrants were installed in the Beau Rivage Plantation neighborhood.
They hydrants will improve safety among the community in addition to saving households around $150 a year in insurance fees.
Bob Barnett with the Beau Rivage Homeowners Association said he is relieved the hydrants were in stalled. Before their community depended on the county and water trucks to supply water when their was a fire in the subdivision.
"That didn't sit well with a lot of the residents, including myself," said Barnett. "I feel a lot better having a fire hydrant close to my house."
The hydrants were paid for in part by the Homeowners Association and a grant from the New Hanover County Fire Department.
