Police investigate fatal shooting in downtown Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Wilmington Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that took place in downtown Wilmington Monday evening.

According to authorities, at least two men were shot around 6:30 p.m. in a home in the 900 block of N. 10th Street.

One man was found inside the house, and another, ran a couple of blocks to a house on N. 11th Street where he was found by officers.

Both men were taken to the hospital, where 25-year-old Tarell Jamal Phillips was later pronounced dead.  Phillips was a resident at the home where the shooting took place.

Preliminary reports show 24-year-old Andre Sharrod Sharpless and 25-year-old Kamala DeShane Dowd were also shot during the incident and are recovering.

Neighbors say the area is relatively quiet during the day, but is crawling with drug activity at night.

Resident Arnold Moore moved to the area four months ago, but may consider relocating after the shooting incident that took place Monday night.  He said he wants to live in a place that is quiet and free of crime.

Detectives say they are working to reconstruct the chain of events that led to the shootings.
