WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington firefighters teamed up with the Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity and Fire Technologies Inc. to install several fire sprinkler systems.
Crews installed the systems in a neighborhood off of Price's Lane. Supplies and installations were given to the families free of charge.
Experts say installing a home sprinkler system along with smoke alarms can increase your chances of survival in a fire by 82%.
Firefighters hope installing sprinklers will become a part of every homeowner's house.
"Your homeowners insurance can be reduced by 10% for having house sprinklers," said Wilmington Fire Chief Frank Blackley.
Installing sprinklers in a home costs from $1,000 - $1,500.
