WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - At The Forum in Wilmington, many small, locally owned shops are reporting a successful Black Friday.

Earlier in the week, we spoke with several business owners, some of whom planned to offer special "Pre-Black Friday" sales in an effort to compete with the big box stores.

Today, we checked in with those stores and others at The Forum, and everyone had good news to report.

Some said the Black Friday rush came later in the day, because people hit some of the big chain stores first and then slowed down a little at the local shops.

Ashley Baccante of Charlotte's at The Forum says, "As far as totals, we did really well. From years past, our totals definitely reflected that. It was an overall success. Traffic was excellent throughout the whole day. It was really good."

The owners and managers we spoke with cautiously said their good Black Friday sales may be a sign that the economy is picking up.
