WILMINGTON, NC (WECT/WAFB) - Businesses and shoppers, alike, are preparing for the upcoming Black Friday sales.

It is the official start of the holiday shopping season, and this year experts predict day-after-Thanksgiving sales will jump 16%.  So with more shoppers and more deals, how do you navigate through it all?

The two most comprehensive sites are and These sites collect all the ads they can find and put them all in one place. This is good if you're looking for a specific store.

Then there are news sites like CNN that rank the top deals they come across, like these top 11.

Social media is also playing a big role this year, especially sites like Facebook and Twitter. Check out Macy's fan page on Facebook offering exclusive deals to their fans.  Another strategy is to sign up for e-mail alerts from your favorite stores.  It's not too late to do this.  Just go to each store's website and look for a sign-up link.

Then there are the old stand-bys like, which collects coupon codes for things like free shipping. They also have a special Black Friday section.

The bottom line: If you want the best deals, you have to do your homework.  And all these sites make it very easy.  Check them, and check them often on Thursday and Friday for new deals.
