RALEIGH, NC (WECT) - North Carolina has been awarded $21.3 million for highway and bridge projects across the state.

"Recovery dollars continue to help us put North Carolinians to work and deliver much-needed  transportation projects," said Governor Bev Perdue.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, every $1 million spent on transportation creates 30 jobs, and according to the construction industry, every dollar invested in transportation generates $6 in economic impact.

Projects in Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender Counties include widening and resurfacing some roads.
