(WECT) - A new business is paving the way to help fight germs by simply wearing a pair of socks, or painting the interior of your home.

Researchers discovered the germ-fighting molecule and are partnering with a group to bring it to the market place.

According to researchers, wearing the socks will minimize infection by stopping the spread of germs.

"We've had a lot of interest from hospital buying groups saying when the paint is ready, we will have a market," said Johnston.

You could also use the germ-fighting paint in your home.  Other products that could be launched in the future include wrestling mats for athletes, kevlar vests for the Department of Defense, and sheets and linens used by hospitals.

"There's been lots of anti-microbials in the textile market for the last 25 years," said Johnston.  "We really have the first technology that will allow viruses to be killed fast and completely."

The socks will be launched in January 2010.  They will first go towards special organizations and then be for sale online for everyone else.

"We are starting with what we think is a very important product and that is therapeutic and anti-microbial socks," said Simon Johnston, CEO of Antimicrobial Technologies Group.
