WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A new road aimed at helping tourists and people living in the Pine Valley neighborhood opened Monday.

Around 4:30 Monday afternoon Mayor Bill Saffo will join officials from the Cameron Art Museum to officially open Museum Drive.

The new road is located beside the museum at the intersection of Independence Boulevard and 17th Street.

Workers at the museum are expecting the road to help with business.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have this road finally open," says Susan Kranyik of the Cameron Art Museum, "It's going to make it much easier for patrons to get into the museum. In the past, we've had problems with tourists finding their way to the museum. We think, all and all, it is going to have a huge impact on our patronage."

The road was built as a part of the Independence Boulevard widening project.
