RALEIGH, NC (WECT) - North Carolina residents can take advantage of some big savings this weekend during the 2nd Annual Appliances Tax-Free Weekend.
Selected home appliances like washers, freezers, refrigerators, and other items that carry the "Energy Star" label will be tax-free from Friday, Nov. 6 through Sunday, Nov. 8.
"Saving money, conserving our natural resources, and boosting the green economy - that's a winning combination," said Gov. Bev Perdue in a statement.
Products that earn the "Energy Star" label operate more efficiently and that means they help cut the production of greenhouse gases. These appliances use less energy to save consumers money on their power bills.
Eligible items include:
- clothes washers
- central air conditioners
- room air conditioners
- air-source heat pumps
- geothermal heat pumps
- ceiling fans
- programmable thermostats
They must carry the "Energy Star" label, meaning they meet the energy efficient standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.
