BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A Leland pastor has been released from jail after being accused of having sex with a child.

According to a Brunswick County Sheriff's detective, James T. Johnson is charged with three counts of indecent liberty with a child, two counts of first degree sex offense of a child, and one count of attempted first degree rape of a child.

The pastor was arrested Nov. 3, but the Star News reported Johnson was released after a church member put up property as collateral.

Johnson is the pastor of Olive Branch Church of Leland on Mount Misery Road.  No one at the church would comment on the charges.

Johnson's attorney, Robert Epstein, has said Johnson maintains he is innocent.

Court documents list offense dates that range from 2006 until this year.
