COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - More than 100 people are being laid of in Columbus County as a result of the Georgia Pacific Company shutting down.
According to a spokesperson for the Whiteville company, it will close down for about six months, leaving 115 employees without a job.
Workers were told in October the lumber products plant would close after the remaining stock was shipped out.
Georgia Pacific plans to monitor the situation through the winter with hopes the construction industry improves.
