WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Spinning is a group exercise class that is beginning to grow in popularity.  It is a fun way to strengthen your heart and legs.

Group fitness instructor Mary Helen Korleski has been teaching spin for ten years and says it's a class anyone can take.

"You control your own workout with the resistance level, so anybody from a novice to a highly trained athlete can take spinning," said Korleski.

Spinning is also great for people recovering from an injury or with worn down ligaments.

"There's no impact in spinning so its safe on the knees, safe on the ankles, safe on all the joints," said Korleski.

Maria Elena Viglucci is an avid spinner who's been hooked for eight years.  She says it's a class that fits even the busiest of schedules and has great music to inspire your workout.

Spin classes last from 40 minutes to an hour.  Depending on your size and fitness level, you can burn anywhere from 400 to 800 calories.
