WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Dozens of positions across our area are up for grabs on Election Day. With time running down, candidates hit the pavement for some last minute votes.
For both incumbent Bill Saffo and for challenger Paul Knight, Monday marked the final stretch for campaigning. Both shook hands, thanked supporters, and made one last pitch to undecided voters.
The face-to-face greetings are opportunities for last minute questions and requests. Saffo, who has won the race before, said you come down to the wire in any election to get every vote you possibly can. He says every election is about the future of the community and about jobs.
Knight agrees that it is important to make personal contact as the final hours run down. He said he would meet every single person in Wilmington if he could. That's why he spent Monday going door-to-door, hoping the paper he passes out will turn into a vote in his favor.
"I just wanted to get down face to face and get a feel of what they're going through," said Knight.
Both Knight and Saffo want a chance to address the public concerns and have been hitting the pavement to prove it to you. And both hope Election Day will bring the sweet taste of success.
