Arrest made in relation to large marijuana farm in Brunswick

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Brunswick County authorities have arrested a man they say is responsible for a large marijuana farm that was discovered in the Green Swamp last week.

William James Burney Jr., 54, was arrested and charged with:

  • two counts of trafficking marijuana
  • one count of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver
  • one count of manufacturing marijuana

According to Lt. Marty Folding with the Narcotics Unit, the sheriff's office received a tip about the farm earlier in the week and found it when their helicopter flew over Highway 211.

Drug agents seized a total of 110 pounds of marijuana with a street value of more than $250,000.  They said the set up appeared to be that of a professional crop.
