WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Sunset Park Elementary was awarded the Cape Fear Garden Club Tour Grant to make improvements to the entrance of the school.
The garden club donated nearly $80,000 to more than 20 local groups, including: schools, museums, and a church.
Principal LaShawn Smith and Assistant Principal Jakki Jethro accepted the money on behalf of Sunset Park Elm. and said they will use the money to make the school more inviting.
"This grant will allow us to install irrigation - to support any plantings that we put out there," said Smith. "We're also going to have a water feature which will be very nice for our children and our families and our community as a whole. It will help Sunset to have the appearance of a school that is welcoming and inviting for all that visit."
The Cape Fear Garden Club is the oldest and largest garden club in North Carolina and sponsors the annual Azalea Garden Tour.
