RALEIGH, NC (WECT) - A known gang member and illegal alien from Honduras pleaded guilty recently in relation to two robberies in our region, according to federal prosecutors.
Ever Jose Contreras, 22 years old, entered that plea last week in connection with two incidents, one in Wallace in Duplin County and the other in Burgaw.
Prosecutors allege that Contreras and another man, Humberto Diaz entered the Your Convenience Store in Wallace in November last year and robbed the clerk. A week after that incident, prosecutors say Contreras and three other man also robbed the Your Convenience store in Burgaw. During that incident, one of the man with Conteras fired a weapon near a customer's head, but did not wound the customer.
Contreras faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to a quarter million dollars on a conspiracy charge. He could face life in prison for an aiding and abetting charge involving the use of a firearm.
