WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Former state Representative Thomas Wright will appear in Raleigh next month to appeal convictions of fraud and obstruction of justice.
Wright was convicted in April 2008 and sentenced to eight years in prison after a Wake County jury ruled that Wright mishandled thousands of dollars in charitable contributions from Anheuser-Busch and AstraZeneca Pharmaceutical Company, and fraudulently obtained a $150,000 bank loan.
Wright served 15 years as a legislator and was the first sitting lawmaker expelled from the General Assembly since 1880. During his tenure as a legislator, Wright represented parts of New Hanover and Pender Counties.
