MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Blue lights are a common site at The Warren Apartments off Elvis Presley Boulevard.  But more than 40 undercover officers accompanied them during a surprise raid Friday aimed at cleaning up the crime ridden-complex.

"Very terrifying," one tenant we'll call Kierra told us about conditions at the complex.

She's attempting to raise two toddlers where she says stray bullets and other dangers are a constant threat.

"Gangs, violence, everything that you don't need," said Kierra.  "Kids don't need to be raised around it and adults like me don't want to see," she added.

She was happy to see suspected drug dealers going to jail as members of the Organized Crime Unit served search warrants and checked for anything outstanding on anyone seen standing around.

"There's good people who live here that have to endure this everyday and every night and they're tired of the gunshots, drug sales, police coming through on a daily basis," said Major Clete Knight with MPD.  "And we're gonna do what we have to do to put an end to it," he added.

The Commercial Appeal recently profiled The Warren Apartments in an extensive article which noted numerous recent murders.  It also featured a photo of a "Cripintine" gang member.  The gang is named after Clementine, which is the street that runs through the complex located less than two miles from the gates of Graceland.

"It's really sad that people don't want to leave they home because they fear someone might harm them, or shoot them, or kill them," tenant Tony Kenny told us.

It's a way of life with which he says far too many Memphians have lived for far too long.

Managers at The Warren Apartments were issued a nuisance order.  It's a warning that the complex could be shut down if problems persist.  A neighborhood store was searched for drugs as well.
