BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Brunswick County leaders are looking into possibly building a veterans hospital.
Earlier this month, county commissioners appointed a committee to research the need for the facility. According to Commissioner Charles Warren, so far the committee is finding the need is great.
Right now, veterans have to travel to Jacksonville or Fayetteville for treatment.
"Also, we just need to have a pharmacy for the veterans so they don't have to travel so far to get the medicine and then a lot of times they get there, the doctor's not there so they wind up having to make two or three trips," said Warren.
Warren said county officials hope to use federal funding to open the hospital where Brunswick Community Hospital sits, because that hospital will be moving to a new location in 2011.
