CFCC promotes healthy living

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Cape Fear Community College showed people ways to prevent illness and how to get in better shape during their 2009 Health, Wellness, and Safety Fair.

Over 70 community vendors and exhibits from over a dozen of CFCC's own programs took place in the event.

"Staying healthy, getting in shape and being safe is what this year's event is all about," said Dianne Jones, CFCC's health fair coordinator.

Exhibits and displays included:

  • Blood pressure checks
  • H1N1 prevention tips
  • Counseling services
  • Hospice
  • Acupuncture therapy
  • Esthetics demonstrations & free manicures
  • Law enforcement
  • Natural medicine
  • Chiropractic services
  • Martial arts demonstrations
  • Free food and drinks
  • Smoking cessation
  • Crime prevention
  • Games

"We have a lot of the public here," said Jones.  "They're able to get health checks from blood pressure, diabetes, even some massages, manicures from our cosmetology. We have about 19 of our own programs here today as well."
