WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - UNCW's Communication Studies Society will host its 3rd annual Rock for the Cure breast cancer benefit concert Friday on the second floor of Reel Cafe in downtown Wilmington.
One in eight women are affected by breast cancer, and the club is trying to raise money for the cause. Last year the event raised close to $3,000. All proceeds from Rock for the Cure go to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation's Pink Ribbon Project.
The Pink Ribbon Project helps local women with the difficulties of breast cancer by distributing Comfort Bags, which contain items such as a satin pillowcase, an inspirational book, and many other comforting items. The Pink Ribbon Project also provides cancer screenings for women who are uninsured.
Rock for the Cure will be holding a silent auction, with some items including: a guitar, VIP tickets to the Ellen DeGeneres Show, and Charlotte Bobcat tickets. Live entertainment features The Schoolboys, a UNCW faculty band that plays a mix of classic and modern rock hits.
