WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Hoggard High School is the alma mater of both candidates vying for Wilmington mayor.
The class of 1978 knew incumbent Bill Saffo as a football star. One of his old teachers said he worked hard on the field and in the classroom.
"He was well behaved, but he had a good sense of humor and he was very likeable, said Hoggard teacher Vivian Crosby. "All his peers liked him and the faculty members were fond of him."
The class of 1975 knew challenger Paul Knight as the founder of radio club, a hobby he turned into a decade long career. His employees said dedication is what Knight's all about.
"[He's] a very dedicated person. He is a very to the point person and there's no question what's going through his mind," said Sherri Parrish-Crawford with Sea-Comm Media. "That's who he is - that's what made him the person he is today."
Whether it's the jock or the radio jockey, those who knew Saffo and Knight in high school say regardless of who you choose on election day, you're voting for the most likely to succeed.
