As someone who lives on the other side of the river, I've been paying attention to the debate over the Cape Fear Skyway project. Like anyone who lives in Brunswick County and works in New Hanover, I know what it's like to be in stop-and-go traffic, and occasionally sit in grid-lock.
Now I'm not a traffic planner or engineer, but I do have one observation. We could build a half dozen bridges over the Cape Fear River - but there is still only one road from New Hanover County into Brunswick County.
If something happens on, or near, either of the existing downtown bridges, that causeway clogs up and you can sit there and grow old. I don't think this is so much about a bridge as it is about another road that connects with the major highways west of Wilmington.
Brunswick County is growing. If the Skyway Project is not the answer, then somebody better be figuring out what is. The costs are enormous, but the costs of not solving this problem are even higher. This is the Cape Fear area and we need to make sure it is connected with more than one road.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org

My answer to this is short. A Skyway Bridge is a great idea. Considering the fact that the counties have no money, the state has no money and the people definitely have no money I don't see it happening unless the counties and the state decide to go the way of the country.....indebtedness more so than already.
I agree completly with you beings that I am from Brunswick County.. The other problems we have noticed is roads esp. 133 needs to be widened along with other county roads. As far as the bridge goes there are alot of folks that agree that we need another bridge into New Hanover County, but we all agree that the company building the new Oak Island Bridge should have nothing to do with it
I agree that the Skyway Project would be a great help, but also the Department of Transportation does need to make major corrections in roads leading to all bridges.
Finish I -140 first . A lot of traffic going thru the leland area uses Rte 421 to get to I-140 in New Hanover Co.Drivers not needing to go near the Wimington bridges will surely use the Brunswick I-140
