Wilmington Council compares notes on hotel plans

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Members of Wilmington City Council met Monday morning to review notes of a recent tour of hotels in the area.

Members are trying to decide what they want to see out of a new hotel near the Wilmington convention center, which is set to open in 2010.  They toured local hotels Friday to brainstorm for ideas.

The majority of council members said they wanted a spacious lobby, a restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, a fitness center, two meeting rooms and valet parking.

At its meeting next month, council will decide the next step in the hotel plan.  A deal with Hotel Indigo to build an upscale hotel near the convention center broke down earlier this year.
