WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - City leaders are taking the next step toward finding a conjoining hotel for the new convention center.
Members of the Wilmington City Council toured three hotels Friday in New Hanover County. They were the Courtyard by Marriott in Carolina Beach, the Hilton Garden Inn at Mayfaire, and the downtown Wilmington Hilton.
Council members called it an educational tour. They looked at bedrooms, meeting space, and restaurants.
"I think the most important thing to focus on is amenities and not necessarily on the brand name," said Council Member Kristi Tomey. "So that's really where my intention was at today, specifically on what are the items that I think would draw people to come to the convention center."
After the tour, council members were asked to fill out a form, indicating the ammenties they think are most important for the convention center hotel.
The findings from the forms will be discussed at the council's agenda meeting on Monday, Oct. 19.
