RALEIGH, NC (WECT) - Fisher/Rex Sandwich Company, based out of Raleigh, is voluntarily recalling some of its pre-packaged sandwiches, after tests from the state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services showed positive results for Listeria monocytogenes.

The voluntary recall includes products with a seven-digit code beginning with 01 and products without a lot code on them.  The Fisher/Rex products with a five digit product code are not subject to the recall.

The items were distributed to convenience stores, gas stations and other retailers in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the presence of Listeria monocytogenes contributes to listeriosis, which includes symptoms of fever, muscle aches and occassional gastrointestinal problems including nausea and diarrhea.  The CDC estimates 2500 people get seriously ill from listeriosis each year and some die.

No illnesses have been reported.  Local health officials suggest you just throw the items away.
