Adding recycling bins to Wilmington parks

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Throwing away plastic became illegal in North Carolina October 1, but a law like that is hard to enforce, especially when recycling bins are hard to find.

"There are a lot of laws," said George Dickson with the Cape Fear River Watch.  "It's enforcing them that's the problem."

Addicted to keeping Greenfield Park clean, Dickson asked for city recycling bins to put outside his boat shop inside the park.  Right now it looks as if those bins may be the only ones inside the city park.

The city said adding more recycling bins to our parks is a priority and a work in progress.  Some parks, like Halyburton, already have the bins, but not all of them do.

Until Wilmington's recycling program is expanded, caring about our parks and environment may just take a little extra leg work.
