COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Republican Betty Fennell announced Friday she will challenge Democrat R.C. Soles for his state senate seat.
Fennell went head-to-head with Soles during the 2008 elections, in what some say was a heated campaign.
Last year, Fennell confronted Soles, asking him if he was being investigated, during a meet and greet he was hosting in Burgaw. At the time, Soles denied the allegations.
Fennell said she decided to run against Soles again because she feels it's time for a change.
"I want to finish what I started last year," said Fennell. "I feel like I can represent this district with my conservative values. I also feel like we need more common sense government."
Fennell said she will file for the seat in February, but the state senate election won't take place until November 2010.
