WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - C-SPAN was at UNCW Thursday to inform students about the importance of media literacy.
C-SPAN gave tours of their civics bus, which is a fully-functional TV programming vehicle. They also shared information with students about how C-SPAN's programming and understanding public affairs.
The cable network launched the bus program in 1993 as a way to bring the world of public affairs into communities nationwide.
"We've had lots of very important politicians," said Vanessa Bailey with C-SPAN. "We've had presidents on the bus. We've had lobbyists, journalists come on and tell us about what they're working on and how things are going, just give us interviews right inside the bus. We can do live television."
The bus travels from school-to-school on a year-round basis.
