It's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and every October I'm reminded how something so horrible frequently brings out the best in people.
It's a terrible disease, but somehow I end up being uplifted by incredible stories and the opportunity to learn about some amazing women who show the depth of their strength and beauty during difficult times.
But this year, I realized something that has escaped me in the past. This awareness campaign is about more than just women. If you take a closer look, you'll also find a number of amazing men.
You see when a woman gets breast cancer (and one out of eight do), the lives of her husband, brothers and sons are touched and changed also, and more often than not, it brings out the best in them too.
All of this is a topic of a new book called "Stand By Her." It's worth looking into for any man who will have to deal with this disease.

I don't want to overlook the courage of the brave women we'll learn about this month, but it would also be wrong to overlook the depths of compassion that come from the men who love them.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
