WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The City of Wilmington will be expanding its services for boaters in the downtown area.

Tuesday night city council members approved construction of two new restrooms, complete with showers, at the tour information center at Water and Market Streets.

Construction will cost a little more than $101,000.  Half will be paid by the city and the other half will be funded through a grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

"I hope that now we can utilize these showers," said Carl Marshburn with Cape Fear Riverboats.  "I hope that we can utilize them not only as showers but restrooms for the public which we need real badly in the downtown area."

Construction is expected to begin in January and should last about three months.
