WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A man was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center Thursday morning, after driving his motorcycle into the back of a Ford pickup.
Authorities said the truck had come to a halt at the stop light at intersection of Carolina Beach Road and Central Boulevard, near Legion Stadium, when the motorcycle slammed into the back of the vehicle.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, the truck driver reported he had to stop suddenly because a car in front of him stopped to make a right turn.
20-year-old Joshua Ryan Westmoreland failed to reduce speed and then tried to stop. Police say his motorcycle slid down and then under the truck.
Westmoreland was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment of a collapsed lung and chest injuries.
Westmoreland was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash with a vehicle, no drivers license, and unsafe tires.
Police report the driver and passenger in the truck complained only of neck pain and were not taken to the hospital.
